ANEW: How to Begin Again

“Only the beginning. Only just a start.”

As many of you know, starting something new, especially when it is inventing and re-inventing yourself, can be very hard. I chose ANEW as this start because each and every day, every one of us gets to start again if we so choose. It’s sometimes hard to feel as if we are doing the same thing over and over again for months and months and even years and years on end. But looking at a fresh canvas or staring down a road we have never traveled before can be daunting. Every Friday, if you are looking for a bit of inspiration, start here with me. Start again.

Often, we need someone to remind us of who we really are and what truly matters to us: our purpose. Who doesn’t appreciate the wisdom and centering in poetry that is Mary Oliver, the force of nature of forever reinventing himself of trumpeter Miles Davis, the hard look in the mirror from the writer Anne Lamott, or even someone new on the scene like digital artist Nettrice Gaskins who feels like she has crept into my head to examine the corners of my mind from childhood? ANEW aims to proffer weekly devotionals and inspiration while offering up a little more of my journey to come.
